Troubleshooting Common Issues

5 min read

Quick solutions to the most common questions and issues with CheckSite.

My Monitor Isn't Detecting Changes

If your monitor seems inactive or isn't picking up changes:

  • Check the monitor status — make sure it shows "Active" on your dashboard. If it says "Error" or "Paused", there may be an issue accessing the page.
  • Verify the URL is accessible — open the URL in your browser to confirm the page loads. Some sites block automated access or require login.
  • Wait for the next check — changes are only detected at your configured frequency (daily for Free, 1h+ for Pro). Check the "Last Checked" time on your monitor.
  • The page may not have changed — CheckSite compares content hashes. If the visible content is the same, no change is reported.
  • Use the Sync button — on your dashboard, click the sync icon to trigger a manual refresh of your monitors' status.

I'm Not Receiving Email Notifications

If you're not getting emails when changes are detected:

  • Check your spam/junk folderour emails come from alerts@checksite.app. Add this to your contacts to prevent filtering.
  • Verify email is enabled — open the monitor, check the Notifications section, and make sure email is toggled on.
  • Send a test notificationclick the Test button next to the email toggle to check if delivery works.
  • Check for digest mode — if the monitor is in a group with daily or weekly digest enabled, notifications are batched, not sent instantly.

My Telegram/Slack/Discord Notifications Stopped Working

Notification channels can break if credentials change:

  • Make sure you haven't blocked the bot (@ChecksiteNotifier_bot). Try sending /getid again to verify the chat ID is correct.
  • Webhook URLs can be revoked if the Slack app is uninstalled or the channel is deleted. Create a new webhook and update it in CheckSite.
  • Similarly, webhook URLs expire if the webhook is deleted from Discord settings. Create a new one and update it.
  • Use the Test button — always test after updating credentials to confirm delivery.

CheckSite tracks consecutive failures. If a channel fails 3 times in a row, you'll be notified so you can fix it.

I'm Getting Too Many Notifications

If a monitor is too noisy:

  • Lower the check frequency — switch from hourly to 8-hour or daily checks to reduce volume.
  • Use a custom monitoring prompt (Pro) — tell CheckSite exactly what to watch for, so it only alerts on relevant changes.
  • Switch to digest mode (Pro) — add the monitor to a group and set it to daily or weekly digest instead of instant notifications.
  • Consider the URLhomepages and news sites change frequently. Monitor a specific subpage (like /pricing or /changelog) instead.

URL Validation Failed

If CheckSite won't accept your URL:

  • Make sure the URL starts with https:// or http://
  • The page must be publicly accessible (no login required)
  • The page must return HTML content (PDFs and other file types aren't supported)
  • Internal/private network URLs (localhost, 192.168.x.x, etc.) are blocked for security

My Monitor Shows an Error

If a monitor shows an error status, it means CheckSite had trouble accessing the page. Common causes:

  • Site is down — the website might be temporarily unavailable
  • Access blocked — some sites block automated browsers with CAPTCHAs or rate limiting
  • Page moved — the URL may have changed (redirect or 404)
  • Timeout — very slow pages may time out during extraction

Monitors with persistent errors are automatically paused after repeated failures to save resources. You can re-enable them from the monitor settings once the issue is resolved.

I Can't Create More Monitors

You've hit your plan's monitor limit. Free accounts can have up to 3 monitors and Pro accounts up to 20. To create more:
